I Swear I Want to Play Guitarโ€ฆ So Why Donโ€™t I? ๐ŸŽธ

I used to love playing the guitar and banjo ๐ŸŽถ. It wasnโ€™t just something I didโ€”it was part of me. But somewhere along the way, life got busy, and playing music became one of those things I wanted to do, but didnโ€™t.

Sound familiar? ๐Ÿค”

This morning, walking into Walgreens ๐Ÿช, it hit me: Iโ€™m no different from the people who want to work out but never do. They tell themselves theyโ€™ll start next week ๐Ÿ“…. That they need to find the right program ๐Ÿ“–. That theyโ€™ll do it when things slow down โณ. Meanwhile, the weeks slip by, and theyโ€™re stuck in the same placeโ€”just like me with my guitar.

The Problem: Not Making Time โฐ

I can say I want to get better at music all day long, but if Iโ€™m not making time for it, itโ€™s just a wish, not a plan. The same goes for fitness ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผ.

The truth? If something really matters to you, you have to put it on the calendar. Not just think about it, but schedule itโ€”just like an appointment you wouldnโ€™t cancel โœ๐Ÿพ.

Clarifying My Why ๐ŸŽฏ

I started playing because I loved it โค๏ธ. And I know that if I never pick it up again, Iโ€™ll regret it. I donโ€™t want to be the person who used to play music.

For people struggling to work out, the โ€œwhyโ€ matters too. Maybe itโ€™s about feeling strong ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ, keeping up with your kids ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ, or proving to yourself that midlife doesnโ€™t mean decline. Without a clear why, itโ€™s too easy to let it slide.

What to Do About It โœ…

Once I realized I was stuck, I did the same thing I tell my clients to do:

  • Find the time โณ. I identified two blocks of time in my week where I can practiceโ€”just 15 minutes each.
  • Make it easy ๐ŸŽธ. I set my guitar and banjo in plain sight instead of storing them away. Environment matters.
  • Have a plan ๐Ÿ“‘. Instead of just noodling around, I wrote down what Iโ€™ll practice. Progress needs direction.
  • Celebrate the wins ๐ŸŽ‰. Even five minutes of playing is better than nothing. Small victories add up.

What About You? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

If youโ€™re someone who wants to work out but doesnโ€™t, ask yourself:

  • Whatโ€™s my why? ๐ŸŽฏ
  • When can I fit it in? โฐ
  • How can I make it easier? ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ
  • Whatโ€™s my plan? ๐Ÿ“…

You donโ€™t have to be perfect. You have to start. ๐Ÿš€
