Who Decided That “Feeling Old” Had to Mean Living in Pain?

What does it mean to "get old"?

I've been thinking a lot about this lately.

Society tells us that getting old means:

Being sore all the time.
Pain, stiffness, and fatigue are just “part of it.”
The best we can do is manage and push through.

Somewhere along the way, we started accepting this idea:

But what if that’s not true?

What if “feeling old” isn’t your age talking—
but your body asking for strength, support, and attention?

Kiersten—our April Athlete of the Month isn’t old by any standard.

But after a busy farming season, her knees were telling a different story.
She was feeling achy, stiff, and weaker than usual.

Kiersten first found Mountain View Wellness the old-school way—by spotting one of our flyers at the gym. One morning, she stopped me with a big smile and a hilarious question:

“So… I’m 40, but what if I identify as someone 40 or older?”

She was referring to our poster that says we specialize in coaching women 40 and up. Kiersten may not be numerically “old” (what does that even mean, anyway? ), but she joked that her knees definitely qualified!

So she joined Mountain View Wellness with one goal:
➡️ Build strength and reduce pain before the next growing season.

Three months later?
✅ Her knees feel stronger and pain-free
✅ She’s confidently using a barbell
✅ And she’s redefined what strength looks and feels like for her

Here’s the thing:
Kiersten didn’t wait until things got worse.
She didn’t wait for a diagnosis.
She listened to her body—and took action.
