Why "Just Tell Me What to Do" Doesn’t Work

"Just tell me what to do and I'll do it."

I hear this all the time — and honestly, I get it.

You’re busy.
You’re tired of overthinking it.
You just want a plan that works.

The problem?
There’s no perfect plan.
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution.
And anyone who tries to sell you one is skipping the most important step:

Starting from where you are right now.

Here’s why cookie-cutter plans usually fail:

👉 They’re built for an imaginary “average” person — not you.
👉 They assume you're starting at full energy and motivation — when maybe you’re not.
👉 They ask you to jump into someone else's life, instead of building from your own.

You’re not broken because a one-size-fits-all plan didn’t work for you.
The truth is, those plans were never designed to fit real life to begin with.

The real first step? Awareness.

Before you can change anything, you have to know:
🔎 What are you doing now?
🔎 What habits are consistent for you right now?
🔎 Where are you starting from — truly, not ideally?

Not from a place of judgment.
Not from a place of “I should be doing more.”
But from a place of honest, compassionate observation.

Only then can we make the small, meaningful tweaks that create real, sustainable change.

Here’s how it looks in real life:

One of my clients — let’s call her Lisa — came to me feeling overwhelmed and stuck.
She thought she needed a whole new plan: a different diet, a different workout, a different life, practically.

But when we paused to get her baseline, we found:

  • She was already getting 3,000 steps a day (without even trying!).
  • She was already eating breakfast daily (a great opportunity to boost protein).
  • She loved short walks but wasn’t carving out time for them intentionally.

Instead of overhauling her life, we built on what was already there.
We added 500 steps a day.
We tweaked breakfast to include more protein.
We scheduled two short strength workouts a week.

Nothing flashy. Nothing extreme.
Just slow, steady progress rooted in where she already was.

Six months later? Yes, six months. Not six days, not six weeks.

Six months later, Lisa is stronger, more energized, and more confident than she’s been in years.

Because she didn’t chase the perfect plan — she created her plan.
